The production of Kona Ironman is a great blueprint for how to showcase professional athletes while highlighting inspirational amateurs throughout the race. It's became part of the fabric of the event. Unbound would be a great testing ground for this production strategy.
I have to seriously challenge Drew on Lance being so handsome. Dude is 1.75 m and weighs 50 kilos😂 put him on one picture next to Matt Beers and 9/10 girls will pick Matt as much more handsome, even if he was bold with stache
Kate had SRAM blips on her fork…I think that's awesome.
Did you guys just invent dropper stems?
59:41 Kate has been struggling to crack top 10s in XC world cups for many years. She was awesome in 2018/2019. I’d like to see her convert to Gravel
YOUR ANALYSIS ON SAFETY AT LEADVILLE IS FLAWED. Just doing all caps to get your attention. Big fan here. You're argument is that if you have the amateur and pro races on different days it will reduce safety concerns at the single track turnaround on Columbine. It's not a PRO/AMATEUR issue. It's a course design issue. Even if you bifurcate the amateur and pro races, you're still going to have heavy two way traffic on the goat trail / Columbine in BOTH RACES. For example, Keegan and the leaders are going to have a 10-40 minute lead on the rest of the pack in the pro race, so they are still going to be maneuvering around a lot of other pros as they descend Columbine as the other pros are on their way up. Amateurs will face the same problem on a bigger scale. Assuming the time spread for finishing for amateurs is between 7.5 to 13 hours, amateurs are going to have two way traffic at goat trail /Columbine as well. Two races on separate days just changes who the pros will run into on the way down from Columbine. Course Design Issue.
Grabbing the fork is fine on flat road sections, she had blips for shifting. Go try it, it's not bad, and Leadville is very mellow terrain for a lot of it. Just don't do it in groups.
DJ had a moment… and it was good. No need to rag the guy.
Keegan's just sand-bagging doing gravel racing.
The men’s pro field was about 66, women’s was like 44 at Leadville this year. The locals are already annoyed by the races and the race series has to keep making changes to placate the public up there. If safety were the only concern, a separate day makes sense. But the pain of an extra day and the COST of running another day for 100 pro riders is kind of dream land if you ask me. And if you look at results, of those 100 racers, there are maybe 20-30 that are actually competing for anything. I like Tyler and Drew, but you guys have not done the race and sort of have no idea what you’re talking about. Case in point, calling it gravel for the whole podcast.
Bonk Babes don’t sound very Cyclery… 🤣🤣🤣
Your suggestions about a separate day for the pros are reasonable for a lot of reasons but it mostly protects the safety of the Pros. In an out and back for the much larger field of amateurs will still endanger them. There will be plenty of very fast amateurs reversing on Columbine and encountering the uphill cyclists.
The DQ was a perfect storm of a rider that is a habitual line stepper crossed with another rider that is kind of a hall monitor and has called people out at a bunch of races over the years. But hey, mistake or not, the DQ is warranted.
Bonk Babes get more views because all of them can behave.
Lauren finished in 7hr00m37s
The unbound DSQ was to a GCN commentator.
She got liquid, and it wasn’t a joke by the film crew..
I do agree that the pro and amateur race should be more spread out for safety reasons. I did the Unbound 100 this year and the pros started coming past me at Lake Kahola. I saw two pros collide with two amateurs right outside of Emporia. I just think some amateurs don’t realize with how fast you all are going that it’s best stay out of the way and the different cycling levels don’t always mesh well together. I would also love to do the race on my end and totally spectate the pro races. I would love to see the 350 start Thursday, the pro races start on Friday, and the amateur race start on Saturday.
I’m so excited to be a spectator at core4. I may do the 40 next year myself. I love having an event that pros come to in Iowa. Good luck Dizzle if you go!
1:11:00 i absolutely agree with Dylan. For some reason in NZ we can only get maxxis tyres (they are most readily available at most bike shops). I needed an emergency pair of gravel tyres, and picked up whatever they had (ramblers) and they are single-handedly the worst tyres i have ever used. They roll slow, they aren't very durable, and they have terrible grip. I switched out to Conti terra speeds when I had the opportunity and it was like going from MTB tyres to slicks on the road, and terra speeds are still gravel tyres, so not particularly fast overall. I don't know what Maxxis does with their tyres but for my money, i'm buying anything but.
The amateur race on one day and pros another is no different than all the classic pro road races in Europe. Each classic and the tour have a sportive event the day before for the amateurs. It works for them and it can work here
STOP talking over each other
Ummmm the pros came to gravel not the other way around. Are you even pro if you can’t navigate the normie pack riders? Hot take, all pros have to start in the do rag zone corral
The Trekkie dude threw away his tire? No DQ? ////Asshole Lance made fun of travis Brown in 2009…also this was my fave BB ever…..so effn great
So hard to follow this as I cycle, bouncing around and so much talking over each other ???
Most bike carbon frames are made in china, then they are shipped to Taiwan to being assembled
drew talking shit about unno when lauf's mtb looks like a fisher-price toy
Soy is a hormone disruptor. Yellow belly comes from Chakras. While it's not so black and white there is some truth to it. In this case studies show a heavy soy diet vs carnivore shows significant difference in testosterone levels
Where's my friend Scott?
Congrats DJ for placing relatively high after your accident.
I ride a bicycle for a job and no one takes me seriously 😭
Leadville is basically an out and back gravel race on mountainbikes
The ethos and allure of gravel racing is the mixing of the pros and amateurs. Pros need to suck it up and live with it. If the separated , how long would the race survive? What promoter will take the risk? If pros want to be separated they can go ride the road.
Leadville is an amateur race. The retired and influencer pros are not needed. Drop the grand prix and the race continues without them
It’s funny to hear the bros that have never ridden Leadville complain about how it’s run 🤣
Tough to compare to the epic rides events, those are not out and back and are mainly single track.
What makes Leadville great is that the pros and amateurs are on the course at the same time. The only places that’s sketchy is the rare single track. The feed zones aren’t that bad, the amateurs just need to be told what to do.
Even if you separate the pros from amateur at Leadville, you still have traffic fast amateurs vs not-so-fast ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gravel is organic. Don't transform Gravel on this non sense of UCI stuff 😉
Tyler should have loved TdF Femmes though, because it was so more exciting than the men's.
Picked up a bolt and made it clear it was to support you guys not Kegan…LOL. Must say that thing really works and since I crashed on power line it really came in handy!
Good to see you guys so engaged.
